PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

These properties can vary significantly depending on the origin and growing conditions of the wood.

  • Density *: 0.73
  • Monnin hardness *: 5.6
  • Coef. Volume shrinkage: 0.54%
  • Stability in service: moderately stable to stable
  • Total radial shrinkage: 3.6%
  • Fiber saturation point: 23%
  • Total tangential shrinkage: 5.8%

(*: 12% humidity)

NATURAL DURABILITY AND IMPREGNABILITY OF WOOD

  • Mushrooms: cl 3 – moderately durable
  • Dry wood insects: durable; distinct sapwood (risk limited to sapwood)
  • Termites: class M – moderately durable
  • Impregnability: 4 – not impregnable
  • Biological risk class: 2 – out of contact with the ground, sheltered (risk of humidification)

Movingui cannot be used without suitable preservation treatment in jobs corresponding to risk class 3, except for certain parts of the structure such as windows, which are less exposed than others (entrance doors, shutters, etc.) . This wood is used for exterior joinery in tropical zones but its use in temperate zones is limited by its sensitivity to attacks by the rot fungus Coriolus versicolor.

SAWING AND MACHINING

  • Blunting effect: significant
  • Teeth for sawing: stellate teeth
  • Machining tools: tungsten carbide

Some difficulties due to the irregular thread. Filler recommended for a better finish.

ASSEMBLY

  • Nailing – Screwing: good hold, pre-boring necessary
  • Gluing: correct

Pre-boring recommended especially for large diameter nails due to the risk of splitting.

USES

The Movingui contains water-soluble yellow extracts which can stain elements in contact with wood by washing out.

  • exterior and interior carpentry
  • paneling
  • parquet
  • furniture
  • light frame

Main known uses to be validated by implementation in accordance with the rules of the art. Important note: some uses are mentioned for information.

REACTION TO FIRE

  • French conventional classification: thickness> 14 mm: M.3 (moderately flammable) thickness <14 mm: M.4 (easily flammable)
  • classification according to euroclasses: D s2 d0 This default classification concerns solid woods meeting the requirements of standard NF EN 14081-1 appendix C (May 2006), used in vertical walls. Namely structural wood, classified, with a minimum average density of 0.35 and a minimum thickness of 22 mm.
